Therapy is a big step.
It helps to know what to expect.
Starting counseling can feel intimidating. I’m here to help you know what to expect and how to prepare for this important step. While individual counseling looks different for each client, below you’ll find some methods and guidelines that will help you prepare.
About Collected
-
Book a free consultation: I’d love to hear from you! I offer a free 30 minute consultation to get know each other and to see if we would be a good fit for what you or your child is needing out of therapy. This consultation is usually over the phone, but I’m happy to meet you at the office – whatever you or your child prefers.
-
Sessions are customized based on the needs of every client. Standard sessions are 50-minutes. Extended 75-minute sessions are also available. I use a variety of methods and modalities, and prioritize relationship-building, comfort, authenticity and a grace-filled atmosphere. My office is private and homey, with snacks and drinks for clients, toys to put kids at ease, and Ody the dog to help break the ice (if desired!). A waiting area for parents is available.
We can schedule sessions on a weekly, biweekly, monthly or as needed basis. However, I do recommend starting with weekly sessions for the first six weeks to build momentum in therapeutic work and then, depending on our goals, begin to lessen the frequency over time.
-
I offer both in-person or telehealth sessions. When considering what’s best for you or your child, it is important to know that I require meeting in person at least once before moving to online services.
-
I work with kids over 10, teens, and young adults under 25. If you fall just outside of this range, let’s talk. I maybe able to accommodate you, or recommend a good counselor who can better serve you.
-
I use a variety of methods, depending on clients’ needs. I primarily work from Person-Centered and Solutions-Focused approaches, but rely other techniques including trauma-informed, play-based, animal-assisted, and dialectical techniques.
-
While most people think of the cliché “cool, calm, and collected,” I know the term from the equestrian world. A horse that’s ‘collected’ is regulated, balanced, fully engaged, and responsive. More than just controlled, it’s state of well-grounded presence — something all of us can strive for as we learn our stride and respond to the course before us.

We are a private-pay practice and do not participate directly with insurance. This allows more personalized counseling with greater flexibility, privacy, and autonomy, and enables us to:
Tailor treatment to the individual rather than insurance requirements
Protect a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion
Avoid mandated diagnoses when clinically unnecessary
Focus on the therapeutic relationship and quality of care
Integrate faith-informed counseling approaches when desired by the client
Although we do not bill insurance companies directly, we are happy to provide you with a superbill to submit to insurance for any out-of-network mental health benefits or reimbursements, if applicable. Please note that reimbursement is determined solely by your insurance provider and cannot be guaranteed by our practice.
